Changing Facebook Ads campaign names

  • What's changing: The ability to change campaign names, adset, and adgroup names, in Facebook Ads, without this causing ad spend to display in duplicate. This change will be implemented in other ad networks in the future.
  • Where is it changing: In the Dashboard
  • Publication date: November 18, 2019
  • Who is impacted: App owners, agencies

Before the change

Ad Spend data was tied to the campaign name as reported to AppsFlyer. As a result, the spend data for campaign IDs with multiple campaign names were duplicated. Altering either a campaign name, adset, or adgroup resulted in duplicate spend data to display in the specific reporting level.

After the change

Ad Spend data displays using the most recent campaign name reported. Duplicate ad spend in the Dashboard is eliminated. Note: The change affects the display of aggregate data and not the attribution data itself. See the example that follows.

What you need to do to prepare for the change

This change affects the presentation of aggregate information in the Dashboard. The change is deployed retroactively, meaning that ad spend duplication for Facebook Ad campaigns due to name modifications will no longer display.

In the future we plan to:

  • Implement this change with additional partners
  • Implement this change in downloadable/API aggregate reports

 Example

  • A campaign began to run on January 1 having the name example_a1.
  • On January 2, the campaign name was changed to example_a2
